Erratic

Sometimes a name for something will explode fully formed into my brain, long before the toy or whatnot is created (like the Cabbages) and other times it is the shapes or fabrics that start the process and the name can elude me.

Do you have a name for these cheerfully round rhinos?

They could technically be pincushions but I think they are just small toys. A perfect little hand hold toy for smooshing around, or stacking up, or using as an excuse to go and buy macaroons from your favourite Ballarat cake shop.

If you guys get to work in the comment box with your ideas, and I go and make apple pies for desert…It’s like I am multitasking isn’t it?

(and if someone knocks it out of the park with the perfect name I’ll send them a little rhino of their very own - or an apple pie, location permitting)

Are you making or planning to make stuff this weekend or just hanging out doing my job for me?

  1. They are adorable....I think you need a strong name like Humphrey (Although that would probably be better with a hippo...) maybe Rafferty Rhino, I like alliteration.......

  2. How about Horacito hippos...

  3. Those look like rhinopotami to me. Rhinopotami = plural form of rhinopotamus.

  4. I am making a Hedgie - I think he will be a Baxter rather than a Lou (although I have made both before). I think Poppy is a sweet name for the Rhino.

  5. Rodney, Rachel and Richard??
@ Anita - you mean Horatio?

  6. I think Rhinosaur sounds cute!
I really love your blog and the lovely things you make. I think i've been reading it for about a year and I always look at other peoples blogs through your blog list - you have some great ones listed.
Anyhow, just thought I'd finally say hello :)
    Cheers,
    Rachael :)

  7. I think rhino's suits simple names like "Ralph" or "Fred". Don't know why but that's what comes into my "simple" mind!!

  8. I'm thinking Ramses? Love the line from the musical Joseph and the Amazing Tecnicolor Dreamcoat.... "If you ever find yourself near Ramses, get down on you knees." As usual your work is wonderful and these darling little rhinos are no exception.

  9. I believe it's a Dozer- as in bulldozer. :) love your toys. We have a little red in the works and I am so excited to meet her!!!

  10. I say 'Barry' (obviously).

The eldest says 'Rodrick' - can you tell there's a Wimpy Kid thing around here?

    The middle says: Frank.

The small says the 'pink one is Manny' (eye roll).

The Mr is vacuuming and I really wouldn't want to interrupt him.

  11. Henri. They are definately smiling and saying that Henri suits them just fine

  12. For such acrobatic rhinoceri I thnk they need some fancy names; Leopold, Francisco, Roberto (aka Leo, Frank and Bob).
I wish my Mr. Was vaccuuming!

  13. Gala...after Royal Gala apples cos you got me thinking about apple pie.

  14. I like Roosevelt. A rather regal name for a smooshy rhino.

I've made the bread and the bickies and now I should be cutting out fabric but I can't quite be pfaffed really.

  15. Your rhinos look as bemused at my computer's apparent malfunctioning at present as I am (that's my excuse for looking at your blog instead of 'actively' working).
For purely geographic reasons, we're fond of the saying 'The Clan Macleod' around these parts. Seems to suit your rhino clan too, so that's my vote.

  16. I think Viola has a nice ring to it. Or Morgan if a boys name is need.
I am trying to sew this weekend. I am currently working on an Alice in Wonderland doll, but it is not going to plan.
How do you do it? Make what's in your head come out on the machine I mean.
The legs and arms are working but the neck and body, at this point are making me angry.
But this is only the first draft ... I did successfully make a Princess and the Pea last weekend so maybe Alice will fall into place by tomorrow afternoon.

I will take a rhino as payment, pie will not travel well in the mail LOL :-)

  17. Today I just happen to be making you a present! Just because.

  18. I think Willard is a fabulous hippopotamus name. It just sounds like a rotund animal's name to me.

  19. "Rhino stack" sounds pretty good to me.

  20. I like my apple pie with real cream please. I think 'Precious' is a cute name, but I love every other name suggested so far too. So good luck with your decision making, shouldn't be too hard????????????

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am going to have to go with Bruno! You have such a lot of name suggestions! Hope you find one that fits or something to spark off a name! Faye

  22. Robbie Rhino - its what came to mind as soon as I saw them!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't know why but 'Madge' came immediately to mind. Rhinos can be girls too can't they?

I'm going to be getting on with my daughter's 18th birthday quilt this weekend. There's 4 months to go but, as it took me 2 years to finish one for my other daughter, there's no room for complacency.

  24. 2nding Rhino Stack

    But Squoosh comes to mind.

You may want to ignore me, I called a project "bandana banana" recently when my blurb writing mojo broke. (it was a bandana print with a yellow lining. I know.)

  25. I like the Rhinosaurus idea. But there's really nothing wrong with Cheerfully Round Rhinos as a group name. I love how they "respond" to so many different names.
I am tackling mounds of paper: downloaded patterns, photocopied patterns, blog tutes, block of the month, on-line freebies, extras and bonus blocks. Mostly quilting, lots of bags, various gift and holiday projects, kids' clothing (for grandsons)--- and etc. Not finding what I was looking for, almost forgetting what that was in the onslaught of other ideas, pulling out fabrics for potential Xmas gifts, trying not to let stacks of "organized" print-outs in their plastic page-protectors slide onto the floor before they find their way into three-ring notebooks. And if I manage to find notebook space for all this paper, what will I have? Nothing! Maybe I'll go sew something instead.

  26. I love their horns. (Great faces all round!) My grandson named one of his soft toys "The Pointy Cat" and I think this Rhino is from the same family. So to me he is The Pointy Rhino.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They are such a happy stack. So I say The Happy Stackables. I'm stuffing patterns this weekend. Oh joy! I'd rather be sewing...

    ReplyDelete
  28. They're Reggie Rhinos, definitely.
Today was a day of stuffing a couple of Scotty's by someone else and doing a little more work on a quilt. Then it was off to Tarneit to pick up some lights Vic scored for my going-to-be-sewing room, once the kids move out of it.
I do like apple pie! I also like rhinos. :)

  29. Hi Jodie

Love your new design. Thought I'd get into the action in the hope that I might be the lucky one this time. So I came up with a few options - Lionel the Rhino, Spike or Stumpy.

Hubby piped up and said Trinoceros!

    Fingers crossed.

  30. Norman - I don't know why, but its something about the horn. I imagine Norman would be a happy laid back kind of a guy :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Jean-Louis? Rory? Sir Nicholas? I thoroughly enjoy your blog - a friend sent me this way one day - your creations are inspiring.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Spike! That could be a boy or girl right?!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Roland the rotund rhino. Rolly for short. I can smell your apple pie from Canada!

    ReplyDelete
  34. With the single horn, I'm thinking an Indian rhino, so an Indian name. Ayush means long life, which is a good name and a good wish for a vulnerable species.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Robert Rhino........ Love it when inanimate things and pets have human names (like henry the hoover) lol

  36. Since you seem to have triplet rhinos, you need a set of triplet names... how about Harvey, Horace, and Hugo? Or you could just go with 'Hippo', if you've ever read the picture book, "A Porcupine Named Fluffy", by Helen Lester.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rondo is a great name - I'm liking it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Morris..no idea why. My son wants my brother's new kelpie pup to be called Fergus, but its a girl...so Fergie or Fergus also springs to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  39. OMG!! That's Ambrose, Barry and Cedric! I wondered where they'd gotten to!

    ReplyDelete
  40. They are Daisy, Rosie and Skye, from the Spring family!

    ReplyDelete
  41. For me they are boys, so I like Reginald, also Bruce, Tom, But some girl names must be listed, what about Freya? Abigail is a favorite of mine too, maybe Daisy? Hope somebody helped...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Love Cedric, now that i have read thru others comments.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Winsome! She is definatley a Winsome. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like Wally, but then what would you name the girl, Winnie? I love all your softies. If only I had your talent... then maybe I would make my own.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Daffodil, Tulip and Bluebell for their lovely spring-like colours and because Rhinoceri need more flowers in their lives :o)

They really are gorgeous Jodie. I want my two to be little again so that we can play at stacking Rhinos!

    xx

  46. How about Orlando? Don't know why - it just came to me :o) xxx

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have no idea why, but Gilbert, Sullivan, and George(ina)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like Rinie the rhino but her two friends still thinking ............

    ReplyDelete
  49. Um... Jodie... I think you inadvertently named one already:

    They are three brothers:

    Erraticus, Criticus and Galacticus.

  50. My fourteen year old votes for "Stephen". Dont know why, and as I have nothing better to add, i guess i will go with that!LOL!!
They are great, they look like they are up to mishief really, trying to get into trouble while no-one is watching. That I guess would mean a name like Dennis (the menace)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ruby the Roly-Poly Rhino. Or Rudy for a boy rhino.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The middle one is definitely called Stan. I think the top one is Paul, but I'm not sure as he speaks really softly. The big one on the bottom is Doris. She's their favourite Aunty.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Parker. I don't why, it just came to me.
