Running from the drugstore cowboys

This morning I drove myself off to a local lane way (previously scouted)
I took from my car a basket containing 3 robots, 3 tins of beans (labels removed) and one camera.
I sat on the ground and proceeded to take photos of robots.
lane
My peace was shattered by a pointy woman asking “Exactly what do you think you’re doing?”
“Oh Hi, I’m just taking photos of some toys”
“You can’t do that here, this is not your property”
“It’s a laneway, I think its a public space…it’s only toys”
“I just don’t think its right..you could be some sort of freak”
“I make sewing patterns, I am taking a photo to put on the cover..really, there is nothing to worry about”
“Well I’m going to find out about that” and the pointy woman stomped off……
robots three
I wonder if they let you blog in the slammer.

  1. You are such a rebel Jodie! Hilarious ....

  2. Does this mean we will see your face on the milk carton as the most wanted "toy photographer"....lol. Love the Robots - maybe you should make the kind that will get rid of the world of pointy women. Enjoy your holidays.

PS If you're in the slammer I'll send sewing supplies smuggled in inside chocolate cake.

  3. I'll join the smuggle-jodie-sewing-supplies team! Also, it's a good thing that woman doesn't live here in Vancouver. There is so much filming and ad photography done here, it's no surprise to fine someone in your lane taking photos.

  4. Good grief! Thanks for the laugh, anyway.

    Your robots look fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The poor woman probably has no life. I imagine her talking to the cops "Yes that woman over there with the soft toys, arrest her she's taking pictures of them!"

    ReplyDelete
  6. In her defence, the robots were unclothed.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ahhhhahahaahahahha hilarious!!! Some people need to.get lives!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. boy do some people need lives!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think you should disclose location of said laneway so we can all take handmade toys for photo shoots. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Some people are weird, and it is not the soft toy makers - we are all perfectly normal. You did get a great picture.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Quick surround her with toys singing danger danger warning warning toy bott lady approaching! Honestly I thought neighbourhood watch had gone out of fashion, you must have looked harmless enough to approach because when you really need someone to intervene there is never a willing voice to be heard. Can you set up a peanut gallery across the road so that I can come and enjoy the spectacle next time, just as well you have a sense of humour.

  12. Had to show my husband this one it is a gem

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great photos Jodie, There are some strange people out there, I wonder what she thought she might be saving the public from?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Where were you - Mayberry RFD? Is she related to Barney Fife? gee, there are some kooks out there.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We live in a funny world! People sure have strange ideas. I was taking photos outside the Art Gallery on St Kilda road recently and was told by a passerby that what I was doing was illegal. I told him it wasn't, and then he said that he didn't give permission for me to take his photo. I didn't say anything, but thought unless you climb in the pond mate there's no possibility of that happening at all. If they haul you off to the slammer Jodie, I think it will be pretty full! (Off to google "public photos of naked toys" now. There's probably a whole underground internet movement of perverts you can align yourself with.)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wait- I'm confused. When did it become illegal to be some kind of freak? I bet you wished of all kinds of things you could have said after she walked off.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "wished of all kinds of things"??!! Well, you know what I meant.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think her problem was that she was suffering from a severe case of robot jealousy :P

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a sad angry woman!! I would have been CHARMED to see your robots being photographed. ;). Maybe we should call Dr Who?? I know he has your back!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh so very funny!!! This has given me a good chuckle. I think the pointy woman needs to get a sense of humour!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Some people really need to find more important things to worry about! Love your robots.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha. You crack me up. Could get lovely vintage, slimy backgrounds in jail. Well worth the trip if the let you keep your camera. You won't be able to make any adjustments because needle and scissors are considered dangerous. Cherrie

  23. People are just... strange, aren't they?

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol at the "nude" robots, Jodie! :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hahahahahahahahaha!! Seriously? Hahahahahahahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Imagine if you had your heads-on-sticks and limbless bodies with you...?

Dare you to go back and do chalk robot outlines and crime scene tape...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not sure who she was going to check with? Perhaps she wanted to play and didn't know how to ask/thought people would think she was some type of freak??

    ReplyDelete
  28. lol.
don't worry, if they lock you up I will make you a felt cupcake with a felt file inside so you can escape :o)

    ReplyDelete
  29. you are the best kind of freak there is.

I just would've loved to hear the reaction from whoever she tried to complain to!

I was talking photos of a penguin and a sheep on the roof of a rental car at Dumgoyne on Saturday. As you do. We had finished and were leaving and on the way out a local version of pointy woman in her car, had us roll down the window to tell us that we'd been blocking farm traffic on a private road. That would the one that had had no traffic at all for the past 2 hours while we ate lunch, that was unmarked without so much as the name of the farm?

and that picture? totally worth the jail time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. ... something about getting out your needle and ... shooting .... pics of some truly fab looking robots! funny ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can just see the news story now "freaky woman arrested in lane way for taking photos of robots". "Look out robots take over Victorian lane ways"

    ReplyDelete
  32. I take it a pointy woman softie will not be appearing in your sewing room any time soon...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for the laugh! Heaven forbid you want to take a photo in a public space. Much less intrusive than the people who come to my door to market their energy company but tell me they are not here for that purpose!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh that is just priceless!! Some people seriously have too much time on their hands! Thanks so much for the laugh, I needed that this evening (Aussie time). :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wonder whether she'd have been as brave if she'd encountered the graffiti 'artists' who had obviously made a visit some time before you. And there was me thinking everybody was really laid back in Australia land.

    ReplyDelete
  36. And thanks to all the commenters too - that gave me a further laugh - you're clearly all creative types!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope she phoned the police and the council and the... laneway sherrif and everyone she could find in the white pages, and every single one of them LAUGHED AT HER until their phones broke. What an idiothole.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Commenter Cass's mention of a 'news story' gives me a naughty idea - please write a letter to your local newspaper's editor and try to stir up a heated Letters To The Editor discussion about people's right to take photo in laneways, or the illegality thereof. I want to see it culminate in an interview with the local police chief, or a lawyer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. can you just imagine if that was the biggest thing you had to worry about in a day? whether the lady taking pictures of robots was breaking any laws. seriously shaking my head right now ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Firstly, ADORABLE! Secondly...I've been known to traipse around my neighborhood with camera and projects. I'm pretty sure I haven't violated any laws. Perhaps you can blog for good behavior!

    ReplyDelete
  41. What a strange reaction! It takes all kinds!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Freaky pointy woman obviously desperately needs a softy in her life. Don't worry if you get banged up you have plenty of offers of smuggled supplies, you could trade them to other inmates and become "Softy making cell Mama" or some-such prison slang :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love the Bots!
What a sad cow that woman was. I'm sure she's told EVERYONE she knows about your illegal activities. I do hope she called the cops. They probably hung up on her.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hahaha -- you've been accosted by a do-gooder freak. THEY are the real freaks LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  45. he he, that's hilarious! I think you should go back there to do more photo shoots... you freaky person (apparently!)

    ReplyDelete
  46. clearly she does not have enough to occupy her time (or she is just plain jealous!)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Not much love in that poor woman's life. Looking for excitement by being unpleasant.

I'm glad you had fun though. The robots look awesome--and the background too!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hahahaha, this is so funny! I hope your robots get her, but they look way, way to cute to harm anyone. What a weirdo (the pointy lady)

    ReplyDelete
  49. For Real?!? I mean, those Robots are pretty menacing. They'll probably break right through that brick with their magical superpowers and I mean, you never know what superpower robots will do. Wow...

    ReplyDelete
  50. just love your patterns/ my husband is the "proud" owner of a donkey named "Democrat" and i neeeeeed the pattern of Reuben the donkey. my problem... i live in the us and no one on your list of stockists has this pattern. HELP!!!!! i would love to make this for him for Christmas. and you know... if you stay out of the slammer long enough to get those patterns ready for the robots, i must have one of those also for my grandsons. thanks

  51. I'm picturing the pointy woman in my head and she has very very thin lips and arms crossed...

The Robots deserve to be splashed on the front page of the crime news blotter as violators of the adorableness quotient.

    ReplyDelete
  52. you meet all kinds in this walk thru life

    ReplyDelete
  53. Perhaps she thought you were a Robot smuggler and attempting to bring "illegal" robots into the lane way without Making a three year detour via a remote alley not located on the mainland, that lacks stuffing, thread and felt to nourish the soul.
Perhaps after the boys in blue ignored her she sent a smoke signal to Tony Abbott? In the near future beware of politicians in budgies smugglers!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Those robots are just so cute! Perhaps not as harmless as they look? But what did you do with the cans of beans (labels removed)?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Disappointed...on-line checking of Ballarat Courier and no "Pointy Woman Foils Illegal Robot Photo Shoot" headline...and I had the cake mix all ready...

    ReplyDelete
  56. I can't stop laughing at this one!!! - truly legendary stuff.
Am waiting for the weekend Courier to see if you have made it in the letters to the Editor.
    Merrilyn

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh, hilarious. With robots as cute as those, you're obviously psychopathic... Or is it sociopathic? Something deranged, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Okay. It's always your blog that makes my husband ask from the next room: "What's so funny?"
    Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL! Love it! Adorable toys! And that was so cute, your discussion with the lady. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. This could only happen to you Jodie. Keep 'em thinking you made her day I reckon.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ha! Those toys will be the end of you! I'll sneak you cake and a needle and thread into the slammer Jodie, I promise.

I can only imagine what that lady must have told her family! I'm sure she embellished the tale too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. For goodness sake, I think some people enjoy being self righteous!

The bots were worth the effort though!

    ReplyDelete
  63. You're joking!!! What a crazy lady! Glad you took your photos anyway :) I love your robots!

    Arabella

    ReplyDelete
  64. This has made me laugh so much!

    ReplyDelete
  65. hahaha omg. really? this happened!? there definitely was 'some sort of freak' in that laneway and it wasn't the lady with the toys ; )

    ReplyDelete
  66. Haha. Was that my lane way? Was that me?
I am trying to recognize it.....

    ReplyDelete
  67. You crack me up, do you have an address for the pointy lady and we could all go and "moon" her.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wow... I'm amazed at what people worry about! Great pictures btw.. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Seriously - what harm did she think you were doing exactly? And who the heck was she going to check with?

ha ha ha - love that you defended your actions. I can see you now in front of a judge "Please sir, I was just taking photos of my toy robots"....

    ReplyDelete
  70. That is hilarious. I hope you write that little story on the packaging for the toys.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Actually as you were in a public space you could have taken a photo of HER, pointy shoes and all. Perhaps she was just in a foul mood and thought you were a lower-ranking chook she could peck at.

Hellloooooo !!!!
