Thanks for the depend.

Front man in the band.

(Grim Fandango's you can like them on face book and freak him out)
Too cool for school.

16

Recently purchased and took a sandwich toaster to school to toast other kids sandwiches

(for a price)

Incredible indignation at its confiscation.

Incredible indignation at most things....

Agreed (for a price) to do some test sewing.

because, as he said - "I have mad-as skillz"

"Mum ! Why doesn't your sewing machine go around corners"

Cue some instruction and lots of "I knew that "

"Wow this is cool"

"I totally rock this sewing shit"

"mum.... Mum..... F#%* My hair is caught in your sewing machine"

(quietly wetting myself with laughter in the corner)

  3. Yes... I'm quietly wetting myself with laughter here too! I recognise that 16 year old!

  4. Listen, I nearly get my hair caught in the machine on a daily basis; but that's because I'm nearly 50, have extreme near sightedness, and long bangs. (Not a good combination, generally speaking).

Your son's flair reminds me of my oldest son's equal ability for entrepeneurship in his teen years! :)

  5. I know boys can smell really nasty and make loads of mess but it's moments like the one you had today that just makes me adore them more. Glad you're enjoying your holidays Jodie.

  6. Hmmm, I wish my machine would sew around corners!! And is his hair long behind that guitar - I'm impressed he managed to get it stuck in your sewing machine - perhaps next time he could thread some strands through the machine and sew with "natural fibres"!!

Thanks for sharing (and I hope Blogger stops giving you the irrits with its annoying spacing).

  7. Too funny!

I can't believe they confiscated his toasted sandwich maker - surely that sort of ingenuity and inventiveness should be encouraged, not stamped on.

  8. Hmm possibly saying to teachers, "Want me to toast your sandwiches," in a suggestive way might be why the toaster was confiscated. Still, he could threaten to sue for theft...unless they asked him nicely for said toaster.

Possibly he's better with a toaster than a sewing machine, still at least he's free entertainment for his long-suffering mum!!

I am teaching myself to (sort of) knit... was highly impressed at doing a whole first row... now not sure how to do next row, but that's for tonight... I am so glad you're not here, you'd be helpless with giggles!!!...ahem as indeed was I last night at loops slipping off needles despite threats!!! Still, knitting, how cool is that?!!

  9. Cracker.

How horrified do your children look whenever there is blasé mention of the padlocked file reserved for 21st birthdays?

  10. I knew a geezer once who made things out of hair. They scared the beejesus out of me but your offspring could revive the craft. Perhaps he could weave placemats out of rockstar barnets.

  13. I may have over-locked a teensy bit of my hair today.

I just knew getting your 16 year old son to pattern test was bound to be entertaining.

Please come back and show us the final result.

  17. hilarious! Glad you could also see the comedy, mum. My 14 year old son started sewing class at school this week. When I put on my new linen apron (made by me, thank you very much), my daughter sighed and said "I just love your new apron, Mom" and without missing a beat, big brother piped up with "well, you haven't seen the wicket apron I'm gonna make in sewing yet!". Time will tell.....incidentally, he's using a very cool "Rock guitar" damask print, I think by Michael Miller.

  19. Aahhh... 16 year olds, wasn't life boring before teenagers came along. Now we get to laugh hysterically, deal with incredible filth, be irritated and deal with hormonal outbursts all in the same hour. lol

Happy holidays...shame about the crappola weather.

  21. Geez, don't teachers know how to stifle enterprising young men or could it be that the tuckshop ladies caught wind of his money making scheme and didn't like the competition!
Maybe young man could take up spinning and weaving and learn to knot with those natural fibres!!

  28. the toastie idea was inspired. And considerate too, they should reward this sort of behaviour.
my favourite was I totally rock this sewing shit.

  29. You are a lot more generous than me! No way any male species in my house even breathes on my sewing machine.

  30. Still laughing - yours is much funnier than mine!

  31. love this - really really made me laugh. Teenagers scare me. I fear for our future!

  32. I think my son is following the same path...although he's only six. His teacher politely refers to him as a non conformist. We all know she means he's a pain in the backside, but saved by his sense of humour and spirit.

  33. Awesome... ♥

PS. I noticed the labels on this post. Maybe it's time to change to Typepad or someone like that?!

  34. Oh I snorted soooo bad! with laughter!!

ps word verification 'mytingle' - mr 16's comment after being scapled by the sewing machine...

  35. AAAK! I hope he's easier on your sewing machine than my then 16 was with the car I shared with him. 16 needs his own yard sale sewing machine, leaving yours for you.

  36. Thank you so much for my morning giggle!!!! Funny how most teenagers are the same, we also have an oracle living in our home that knows EVERYTHING!!!! Last year when he was in year 12 their sandwich toaster was confiscated as they never cleaned it so they used the microwave to melt the cheese on their sandwiches and wondered why that went too!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. He would be mortified no doubt by all the chuckling his sewing attempts have generated! I love the hair (though I'm glad it didn't end up in a work-safe ad style incident) perhaps nose-to-nose with the machine in concentration isn't the best approach?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  38. You have to love teenage boys. As a lot of Lucas' mates mothers don't sew they are quite fascinated by my sewing machine. At least it was his hair caught and not his finger stitched.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My mum and I are sitting here crying! That is so funny.

  40. Oh the joys of having a 16 year old boy!! Nice to know others lead a similar life.
Laughed that his hair got caught - did you give your machine instructions?

  41. Such a funny story!!
I love his entrepreneurship in bringing a sandwhich toaster: I would have paid to get my sandwhich toasted at school!!

  42. Such a funny story!!

  43. HAHA so funny!!
