If you want something done.........

If you want something done ...give it to a busy person.

So in amongst the preparations for the show and all the other general life things ,including a bizarre sore ear/throat/mouth thing...we bought a kitten.!

We actually planned on two(one each for the kids) but there was only one suitable for rescue from the RSPCA.

As things go that was probably a good thing because Miss Eloise is a bit sick and we had to take her back to the vet today. She won't eat which obviously isn't good, but this evening she has a had a bit of kitten milk so we are hoping she is improving and yes we have supplements and things and are monitoring her very closely so don't worry.

Yesterday while she was off at the vet getting de-sexed and vaccinated and implanted and so on , Connor busied himself with kitten preparations and asked me to make a mat for the bowls to sit on - He was so excited he was driving me mental so I told him to think of a cat design and we could use the last of the gocco bulbs to burn a screen.

First off - no pins , just winging the three layers ended in total skewiffness and I had to unpick it.
Next - added the walking foot and some pins but put the layers together wrong so the wadding ended up on the outside (and yes I had sewed all the way around before I noticed.) Unpick it again.
Third time - no hassle! So my ten minute job ended up taking most of the afternoon and you know what?
I don't think the cat has even noticed it.

  2. I like it, even if the cat hasn't bothered to notice yet - maybe when she feels better?

  3. Perhaps all the events of yesterday (desexing and all) put her off her tucker a little!

Anyway she is gorgeous - I do like a cat in the home!

  4. Ungrateful beasties, cats.... she probably didn't notice all the trouble you went to. But it's a great placemat.

I'm sure puss will bring you lots of love and joy - if not gratitude.

  7. what a beautiful little kitty - always a good thing to rescue a little cat in need of a home (I'll become one of those old ladies with a 100 cats I'm sure - I'm a sucker for a sad cat story). I was way too lazy to make mats for my cats - they just had cheap plastic ones from ikea - although I did redeem myself slightly by making some cushions for stevie when she was in her cage.

  9. Aww - welcome to Miss Eloise (gorgeous name). I'm sure she's going to have ENORMOUS fun with your ribbons and pins and threads, etc. If she's anything like Georgie-cat she'll come and sit on any fabric you are trying to cut/pin, and be in severe danger of getting her whiskers chopped off!

    That's a wonderful place mat.

  10. Welcome to Jodie's family, Miss Eloise. You're in good hands!
Even though I'm not a cat person, your new addition is mighty cute. And great job on the third time lucky mat.
Love the fish skeletons in the cat's bellies! Great idea Connor!

  11. Love her Jodie and I love the mat. I will have to make one for Nelly - it will look much better than the newspaper we have down now. I am still learning. . . we had a great day out today, but missed you.

  13. I don't like cats' much - so I am glad that Miss Eloise has gone to live at your place. I must say that I am very impressed with your mat for the cat - well done connor on the artwork - and Jodie - it looks fantastic !

  14. I bet she has noticed it, but in true cat fashion doesn't want to be seen to be too impressed.
    She's beautiful!

  15. She is lovely Jodie, must say she looks a bit like our new kitty
    Miss Ella.

The mat is darling and even if Miss Eloise doesn't care, you'll see it every time you feed her and think of designer Conner:)

  17. Aw best health to the little kitty. How cute. What a good mom you are.

  18. What a beautiful kitten! She won't notice such things because they don't smell of a) another cat/dog or b) food... especially food!

But at least Connor did a fab design and a few of them might even be saleable. As soon as Eloise is better and has had a good sniff around the place (including finding the warmest place to snooze in) she will get to know you and the family.

  22. Remember, she's a cat. She HAS noticed but she is not going to give you the satisfaction of letting you know.

  23. This is my second day in the sewing room so I know how a small project takes all day.

My projects are not small just overwhelming.

    Cute mat for the cat!

Thanks for making my break funny!

  24. Of course she has noticed but you know what cats are like, you would hve to be tugging on her whiskers before she would say anything.

  26. Love the new kitty. We usually end up with more than required. Go for one cat and come back with a whole basket full.

  27. Kitty!!! She's so cute.

You should *ahem* whip up a few more of those mats and sell them for megabucks at a foofy pet shop. It's fabulous.

  28. Silly cat not to have noticed. Don't worry - she'll throw up on it soon enough! I love it, btw. I'd have it as a placemat, and I'd NEVER throw up on it.

  33. I so love little kittens! We got ours at around this time last year. She was also an orphan and has turned out to be the most beautiful cat. She plays with my kids like a dog would - runs around the yard with them, mucks around in their tree house with them and I just love her ... even though she sleeps on my fabric! I wouldn't let anyone else do that!!!!

  34. What a sweet kitten. Hope she is a bit more chipper now. She might have noticed if she didn't have a nice mat to eat at!

  37. She is delicious. I know when previous kittens haven't eaten they have not been able to resist some of the meat babyfood licked off a spoon. Hope all goes well with the new arrival. Ours is in nuclear meltdown. Called the vet again today to ask if cat swiping and hissing at me is normal. We have to start over and put her in a dark room and leave her alone for two weeks and see if we can rebuild trust. Fun times at mine! : )
